Shift Solenoid Malfunction
If none of the solenoids came on you could still drive the vehicle in third gear. Max speed would be approx. 80-100Kph, and driving up hills, probably a small hill but driving up a mountain could damage the transmission. This design is so you can get home or to a garage not to go sight seeing.
CODES
Pick two transmission codes out of repair information, and describe what the code means and what malfunction would cause this code.
Code 21 Low TPS
This means the transmission control module is receiving a TPS voltage signal that is below its programed parameters. A brake in the carbon track of the TPS sensor could cause this fault or a fault in the signal wire to the TCM.
Code 15 High ECT
This means the transmission control module is receiving a ECT voltage signal that is above its programed parameters. A faulty variable resistor in the ECT sensor could cause this fault or a fault in the signal wire to the TCM.
Diagnosis
For each code listed above, dicuss what test you could run to diagnose the problem.
1st Problem Testing :
Test the TPS sensor with a oscillosope and volt drop test the wire from TPS sensor and at transmission control module.
2nd Problem Testing :
You could test the ECT sensor with a oscilloscope and volt drop test the signal wire from the ECT to the TCM and also check for a bad earth.
On Car Exercises
With the vehicle on a hoist drive the vehicle to allow it to shift up and down through the gears. Record which solenoids are on in which gears.
